I just think as far as nuclear power goes the thorium design is the only way to go.

Now you say the design has been around since the 60's and you ask why there is not a working design around now. I thought the simple answer to that was: you can't make nuclear weapons with the thorium design.

I would love it if society put to rest the idea of nuclear power for now. Too many unknowns and too many loose ends for us to tie up with our current methods of doing things. But then again, people are hell bent on producing as much power/energy as possible without thinking about what we are even using it for. So the nuclear debate rolls along......billhicksmostfunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01598431385803045069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2703718837080088488.post-1266925712846052962012-03-28T09:29:35.791-05:002012-03-28T09:29:35.791-05:00Bill- ehh. I like Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_fluoride_thorium_reactor

A good question to ask- why is there no working commercial reactor anywhere by now? Sure, there can be silly reasons; but there can also be good "real world" ones.

At this point, my basic reaction is: it's just not NECESSARY; no matter how "safe" people claim it is. The mining and refining is dirty, it's all expensive.

And Japan; which used to get 30% of all it's electricity from nuclear - has only 1 reactor running now; and the PEOPLE are refusing to restart them. THEY think they can do without.

I think we can do without too.

Reactors are expensive; no matter what- which means thieves of all kinds are immediately attracted to them from corporations to mafia.

More dispersed, lower intensity energy sources are far less attractive targets for bad guys- and can definitely produce "enough".Greenpahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17224906349154302210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2703718837080088488.post-11169177011234536442012-03-28T03:25:57.506-05:002012-03-28T03:25:57.506-05:00What is your take on the liquid fluoride thorium r...What is your take on the liquid fluoride thorium reactors???

I just learned about them myself and was curious as to your opinion?billhicksmostfunnyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01598431385803045069noreply@blogger.com
